Tra poco in tour in Italia questo combo danese dei Powersolo,formatisi nel 1998 e conosciuti anche come The Railthin Brothers, altri non erano che i due fratelli  Kim "Kix" Jeppesen e Bo "The Atomic Child" Jeppesen che, per chi possiede buona memoria nel corso della recente era del rock'n'roll , sono stati parte della backing band del progetto wild rockabilly di Jon Spencer chiamato Heavy Trash, i quali fratelli hanno pubblicato svariati album per etichette europee ed americane ed ora giungono sui nostri lidi per presentare i loro due ultimi lavori: l'EP Peek - A Bo per la Crunchy Frog e l'album Bo-Beep sempre per la medesima label di Copenhagen; la formazione che verrà in Italia invece sarà un trio composto dal fondatore Kim Kix, da Mike "Zack"Sullivan e da Anders "Peasoup" Pedersen. La particolarità peculiare di questo combo è quella di saper cogliere un pubblico assolutamente trasversale nel variegato mondo del rock'n'roll odierno per via della loro capacità di sommare, attorno ad un'attitudine punk e lo-fi mai però sciatta, un universo completo di roots music americana a partire dal Rockabilly, Hillbilly, Downhome Blues, Rock'n'Roll, Alternative Country e quel gusto surfing oriental che in un brano simbolo come "Ana Bhebak" emerge in tutta la sua bellezza ed originalità, visto poi che il paese di nascita di Kim è la Tunisia ed ecco spiegato perchè nel loro suono talvolta rileviamo degli esotismi orientali ed arabeggianti che lo rendono cosi particolare L'eco di questo gruppo e del suo suono molto rootsy è sconfinato anche dall'ambiente puramente underground per approdare nel mainstream dei commercial pubblicitari, tant'è che alcuni loro brani sono stati usati per commentare spot della Coca Cola Zero, della Carlsberg, delle Ferrovie Francesi, della Renault  e dei Chupa Chups Lollipops tanto per fare alcuni nomi.

Questo aspetto per così dire "filmico" o da commento sonoro è evidente in un piccolo capolavoro del nuovo album come Try Another Town che potrebbe uscire da una colonna sonora di un film di Russ Meyer. Il suono poi di questa band ha anche forti ritmiche stomping che lo avvicinano a maestri come Cramps o Hasil Adkins ed a volte manifesta anche un'attitudine novelty come in un brano manifesto come Absinth.

Se amate il Rock'n'Roll nella sua accezione più cruda, essenziale, primordiale ma suonato con maestria non perdete il tour di questo combo che fonde più istanze della Roots Music americana in una proposta assolutamente originale e fresca che riverdisce tutto quel patrimonio sonoro stile Norton Records o delle compilation Sin Alley o Strummin' Mental.

The Power of Solo

2018 is the year of the SOLO. The Atomic Child that so many many years rode alongside Brother Kix on a horse called Mule and defeated audiences across the Globus with his mighty axe decided to take a load off and lay his barking dawgs to rest by the fire place at Casa Railthin. Enjoying his PowerOtium looking at all the platinum records, Grannies and other prestigious awards and sparkling trophies from two decades of confrontational badassery on stage and record both, Brother Beau deserves nothing but our utmost respect and praise for his lifelong dedication to rock’n’roll and beyond. 

But The PowerSolo forges on. A juggernaut through the big, black narcotic night, Kim Kix and his merry band is once again setting sail towards the clubs, festivals, dives, concert halls, your mother’s house, bars, ball rooms and other entertainment establishments. And this year they’re armed with kick-face material taken from the new PowerSolo unlimited edition long player album BO-PEEP and it’s Record Store Day un-unlimited edition 4 song companion-EP PEEK-A-BO. Both releases will be available on all futuristic megapixel bitcoin platforms and the LP will even come disguised as a CD in countries where such a thing is still a thing.


So much for the sound. The beautiful artwork was done by Martin Wild of The Courettes - a fine band that Kim Kix has produced 2 records for. The colours are bold and the designs even bolder. The final result defies description. But we’ll try: This is a fine record. Damn fine. It’s what the doctor ordered. It’s what your Father warned you against. It is highly toxic but strangely addictive. It is BO-PEEP. And PEEK-A-BO. A double whammy like you’ve never heard before. 17 inches of pure indiluted PowerSolo. Can you dig it?
